Tikveš Lake (North Macedonia)

Weather…

Tikveš Lake is the largest artificial lake in North Macedonia, situated in the Tikveš wine region near the town of Kavadarci. It was created in 1968 following the construction of a 104-meter high dam on the Crna Reka river for hydroelectric power and irrigation purposes. The lake covers a surface area of approximately 14 square kilometers and reaches a maximum depth of 105 meters. Surrounded by a rolling hilly landscape, it serves as a vital ecological reserve and a habitat for many rare birds of prey. One of its most significant cultural landmarks is the 14th-century Polog Monastery, which remains secluded and accessible only by boat. Beyond its industrial functions, the lake is a popular destination for fishing, diving, and water sports, with many weekend cottages built along its jagged coastline.
