Prilep (North Macedonia)

Weather…

Prilep is one of the largest municipalities in the Pelagonia region, characterized by a rich historical legacy. Towering over the city are the ruins of Markovi Kuli (Marko's Towers), a medieval fortress system named after the legendary Prince Marko. The remnants of this 14th-century fortification not only hold historical significance but also provide an expansive panoramic view of the entire settlement and the Pelagonian plain. The city serves as the traditional center of tobacco cultivation in North Macedonia. The oriental tobacco grown in this area is of high quality and constitutes a crucial economic driver for the region. In the center of Prilep lies the old bazaar, which preserves the city's Ottoman heritage with its cobblestone streets, small craft shops, and the 19th-century leaning clock tower. Every summer, Prilep hosts the "Pivo Fest," a large-scale beer and barbecue festival that attracts tens of thousands of visitors from within the country and abroad. In addition to the festival, the vicinity of Prilep features various excursion opportunities, such as the Treskavec Monastery, situated among the rocky mountains above the city.
