Vevčani Springs
The Vevčani Springs are a spectacular natural phenomenon located on the eastern slopes of the Jablanica Mountains, immediately above the village of Vevčani. This karstic spring system consists of multiple outlet points, with the primary source emerging from a cave. During the spring months, the discharge can reach up to 1,500 liters per second, forming the Vevčani River that flows through the settlement. The surrounding area is developed with lush vegetation, wooden bridges, and maintained trails, making it one of the region's most significant ecological protected areas. Historically, the springs were the lifeline of the village, once powering numerous mills and sawmills. In 1987, the springs gained international prominence during the 'Vevčani Emergency' when residents successfully protested against water diversion plans. Today, the springs symbolize the spirit of resistance and independence of the local community.
