💡 Tips
- Hire a local with a wooden boat to gently row you around the tranquil, willow-draped springs.
- Combine your visit with a trip across the border to the nearby Sveti Naum monastery in North Macedonia.
- The park gets very busy with Albanian families on weekends; visit on a weekday for a much more peaceful experience.
- Feeding the swans is a popular activity, but make sure to ask locals for swan-safe food rather than throwing bread.
🍽 Food
The absolute culinary highlight of the region. Be sure to try this rare, endemic fish at a riverside restaurant.
Baked in a small pan with olive oil and local herbs, making it a perfectly gooey and savory appetizer.
A delicate fish spread made from the local trout, often served as a starter at the more upscale lakeside restaurants.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
The nearby region produces excellent wine; small bottles are often sold by vendors near the park entrance.
Look for small, traditionally carved wooden souvenirs sold by local artisans around the Drilon area.
Find a bench under the massive trees near the swimming swans, tucked away from the main restaurant patios.
Follow the wooden paths that connect the Drilon springs out towards the main lake for a quiet late afternoon stroll.

Drilon is a photogenic natural park located 5 km east of Pogradec, right on the edge of Lake Ohrid. The area is famous for its vertical springs where water from Lake Prespa resurfaces after traveling underground. Lush vegetation and weeping willow trees surround the calm water channels, creating a peaceful garden atmosphere. During the communist era, Drilon was a private retreat for high-ranking officials, including dictator Enver Hoxha, whose former villa remains as a landmark. Today, it is a public park where visitors can take small rowboat trips to see the resident white swans and ducks. The park's restaurants are renowned for serving 'Koran,' a rare and delicious species of trout found only in Lake Ohrid. With its cool springs and shaded paths, Drilon is a well-suited escape during the summer months. A short walk leads to the characterful village of Tushemisht, famous for its stone houses and welcoming locals.
