The academy was founded to train Confucian scholars and to honor the memory of Jeong Mong-ju and other sages. The complex includes a shrine, a lecture hall, and dormitories in a typical seowon layout. Although founded in the Joseon period, its purpose is deeply connected to the history of the Goryeo dynasty through its veneration of Jeong Mong-ju. Today, it stands as a museum and historical monument, offering insights into the educational system and Confucian culture of the Joseon era.
