Gimpo is a strategically located city in Gyeonggi-do province, situated between Seoul and Incheon at the lower reaches of the Han River. It is internationally recognized for Gimpo International Airport, which served as Korea's primary international gateway until the opening of Incheon Airport in 2001 and remains a major hub for domestic flights. The city has a deep agricultural heritage, particularly in rice production, supported by the fertile plains of the Han River estuary. In recent decades, Gimpo has evolved into a modern satellite city with large-scale residential developments like Gimpo Hangang New Town. Historically, the Munsansanseong Fortress is a key site, originally built during the Joseon Dynasty to guard the approach to the capital. Bordering the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to the north, the city holds unique geopolitical significance. Nature and history enthusiasts often visit Aegibong Peace Park, which provides a direct view into North Korean territory.
