Zelena Glava
Zelena Glava is a prominent peak in the Sinjajevina massif, the largest mountain plateau in Montenegro. Rising to an elevation of approximately 2,100 meters, it towers over the expansive highlands known for their barren yet ecologically valuable karst landscapes. Geologically, the peak and its surroundings are predominantly composed of Mesozoic limestone, shaped by millennia of erosion into complex formations like sinkholes and karren fields. The name "Zelena Glava" (Green Head) refers to the grassy vegetation that covers the summit during summer months, contrasting with the gray rock of the surroundings. Historically, this area was a hub of Montenegrin transhumance, where thousands of sheep grazed on the vast alpine pastures of Sinjajevina. The region is now a subject of nature conservation efforts to protect the unique ecosystem from overgrazing and industrial development. Zelena Glava features hikers sweeping views across the plateau toward the Durmitor massif and the Tara Canyon. The climate is harsh with strong winds and long-lasting snow cover, limiting the flora to hardy alpine species.
