The Iagorlic Scientific Reserve was founded in 1988 and is located on the left bank of the Dniester River in the Dubăsari District. Covering an area of about 836 hectares, it protects the unique ecosystem of the Iagorlic Bay, which was formed following the construction of the Dubăsari dam. The reserve combines aquatic habitats, reed beds, and limestone slopes with steppe vegetation. It serves as a vital refuge for numerous fish species, amphibians, and waterbirds. Particularly valuable are the populations of rare plant species adapted to the dry limestone cliffs. Despite its location in the Transnistrian region, which can complicate administrative efforts, the area remains a key ecological core for biodiversity conservation in the Dniester River basin.
