Trebujeni

Trebujeni lies adjacent to Butuceni and is an essential part of the Orheiul Vechi Cultural-Natural Reserve. While Butuceni occupies the ridge, Trebujeni is set lower in the canyon system formed by the Răut River. The village is renowned for its well-preserved rural layout and its numerous guesthouses ('pensiunea') that provide an authentic look into Moldovan country life, characterized by traditional porches called 'prispa' and reed-thatched roofs. A major highlight in Trebujeni is the archaeological site of the medieval town of Orhei, which flourished during the 14th century under the Golden Horde. Visitors can explore the ruins of a Tatar mosque, a public bathhouse, and a mausoleum. These stone remnants highlight the region's historical role as a crossroads between East and West. The blend of ancient ruins and contemporary village peace creates a unique atmosphere. The limestone gorges surrounding Trebujeni offer excellent hiking trails, particularly beautiful in spring when rare wildflowers bloom. The village is also a culinary destination, where hosts serve homemade wine and traditional mămăligă. Each summer, the village hosts 'DescOPERĂ', an open-air classical music festival where the natural acoustics of the surrounding cliffs provide a memorable backdrop for world-class opera performances.
