Veyvah is an appealing small island in Meemu Atoll, about 130 kilometers south of Malé. With only around 350 inhabitants, it is one of the least populated inhabited islands of the atoll, yet it has preserved a strong fishing oriented identity. Most men work on traditional pole-and-line boats, catching skipjack and yellowfin tuna for sale to state processing plants. Reef fishing with handlines is also common. On Veyvah there is a small school, a mosque, a clinic and a multipurpose hall for community events. The island is connected by public ferry to the atoll capital Muli and to Mulah, where the nearby domestic airport gives internal flights. Veyvah is also famous for its dedicated Boduberu drum groups, whose performances, especially during the Eid festival, attract visitors from the surrounding islands. The beaches offer quiet white sand stretches barely touched by tourism.
