Reethi Beach is located on Fonimagoodhoo Island within the Baa Atoll, a region officially designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2011. The island measures approximately 600 meters in length and 200 meters in width, with only 15 percent of its land area developed to ensure the preservation of native tropical flora. Geographically situated on the eastern edge of the atoll, it is encircled by an extensive house reef positioned 30 to 100 meters from the shoreline. The area is highly significant for marine biodiversity, serving as a primary habitat for whale sharks and manta rays, particularly in the nearby Hanifaru Bay during the southwest monsoon from May to November. Historically uninhabited until its commercial development in the 1990s, the island has been managed under strict environmental protocols to maintain its ecological integrity. Today, the beach facilitates important marine biology research, focusing on coral propagation initiatives and the protection of endangered sea turtle nesting grounds.
