Radviliškis is a significant city in northern Lithuania, primarily known as one of the nation's most critical railway junctions. Its history dates back to the 16th century, and the city's name is directly derived from the powerful Radvila (Radziwiłł) noble family who once owned the estate. The pivotal moment in its development occurred in 1871 with the construction of the Libau-Romny railway line, which transformed Radviliškis into a strategic transport and industrial hub. Historically, the city is renowned as the site of the 1919 Battle of Radviliškis, where Lithuanian volunteer forces secured a decisive victory over the pro-German Bermondtian troops, a landmark event in the struggle for independence. Modern Radviliškis is characterized by its extensive rail infrastructure and industrial output, yet it retains cultural symbols like the historic wooden windmill and the neoclassical Church of the Immaculate Conception. Today, it serves as a key gateway to the Aukštaitija region and a central pillar of the Lithuanian logistics network.
