Semyonovka

Semyonovka is the neighboring village to Grigorievka and serves as the starting point for the Semyonovka Gorge (Kitchi-Ak-Suu). This gorge is particularly steeped in history as it contains the Kyrchyn Valley, a vast high-altitude plateau that has traditionally served as a gathering place for nomadic tribes. Kyrchyn achieved global fame as a primary venue for the cultural competitions of the World Nomad Games, where thousands of yurts were erected and traditional equestrian games were held. The gorge's landscape is defined by rolling green hills, rugged rock formations, and a rushing river. Compared to the Grigorievka Gorge, Semyonovka often feels more expansive and open. Many travelers combine both gorges into a single loop trip, as they are connected in the backcountry by a mountain track. During the summer months, visitors have numerous opportunities to experience nomadic life firsthand, stay in yurts, and sample local specialties like fresh yogurt and traditional flatbread. The village of Semyonovka provides basic tourist services and is a quieter alternative for travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Cholpon-Ata. The best time to visit is from June to September. Access is straightforward via the main northern shore highway, with the entrance to the gorge clearly signposted.
