Zarivar Lake is a freshwater lake of natural origin located in the mountainous Kurdistan province of Iran, near the western border of the country. The water surface lies at an elevation of 1285 meters above sea level, just a few kilometers from the city of Marivan. The north-south length of the lake is approximately 5 kilometers, and its maximum width reaches 1.6 kilometers. Its geographical peculiarity is that it lacks any surface inflowing river; its water supply is entirely provided by springs emerging at the bottom of the basin and precipitation from the surrounding mountains. The maximum depth of the water approaches 5.5 meters. The lake and the connecting wetlands are bordered by extensive reed beds and old oak forests.
