Taksony is a historic large village in Pest County, located on the left bank of the Danube, just south of the Budapest metropolitan area. Named after Prince Taksony, the grandson of the conqueror Árpád, the village is steeped in early Hungarian history and is believed by some to be the final resting place of the prince himself. The community's modern character was significantly shaped by the arrival of German settlers (Danube Swabians) in the 18th century; today, Taksony is one of the most prominent centers of German minority culture in Hungary, where traditions, music, and the German language are actively preserved. The town's architectural highlight is the Baroque Saint Anne's Church, which stands amidst well-kept streets and civic spaces. Taksony's natural appeal is centered around the Danube backwaters, a protected area offering serene landscapes for hiking, rowing, and angling. The surrounding gravel pit lakes have also been repurposed into popular swimming and recreational spots.
