Godollo Arboretum (Hungary)

Weather…

The Godollo Arboretum was established in 1902 by the Ministry of Agriculture to study the adaptability of various coniferous species to the local climate. Originally spanning 350 hectares, it served as an experimental forestry station for Archduke Joseph and was a cornerstone of early 20th-century forest research. Today, the arboretum covers 190 hectares, with over 90 percent of the area still dedicated to active scientific investigation. The collection features approximately 800 species of trees and shrubs, including significant stands of pine, spruce, and exotic flora from across the globe. Beyond its research function, the arboretum provides a vital recreational space for the public, featuring educational trails focused on forest botany. The site is currently managed by the Forest Research Institute (ERTI), maintaining its historical and scientific legacy.
