Warder, also spelled Werder, is the administrative capital of the Dollo Zone in Ethiopia's Somali Region. The town is most famous for the historic Warder Wells, a complex of deep traditional wells that have sustained the local pastoralist population and their livestock for centuries in this hyper-arid environment. Historically, Warder was a significant stronghold during the Dervish resistance led by Sayyid Mohammed Abdullah Hassan against colonial forces in the early 1900s. Its geography is characterized by dry, rocky plains that are central to the nomadic movements of the local Somali clans. Due to its proximity to the Somali border, the town serves as an important gateway for cross-border trade and regional logistics. Today, Warder hosts essential administrative offices, schools, and health centers, acting as a lifeline for the sparsely populated surrounding districts. The management of water resources remains the primary focus for the town's ongoing development.
