Yacuri National Park is located on the border between the Loja and Zamora Chinchipe provinces in far southern Ecuador. Established in 2009, the park covers an area of approximately 43,100 hectares within the Andean mountain range. It is an integral part of the Podocarpus-El Cóndor Biosphere Reserve, protecting vital high-altitude ecosystems such as páramo and cloud forests. A standout feature of the park is its system of over 46 lagoons, with the Yacuri Lagoon being the largest and the park's namesake. These waters hold great spiritual significance for local indigenous communities and serve as essential hydrological reservoirs.
