💡 Tips
- Access is either by a small taxi boat or via a very steep, challenging footpath. Wear sturdy shoes, not flip-flops.
- Arrive before 10 AM or after 4 PM to avoid the main crowds from the tour boats.
- There is a small bar on the beach, but no other services. Bring your own water and snacks.
- Water shoes are highly recommended because of sea urchins, especially when entering the water near the rocks.
🍽 Food
Many boat tours to Stiniva include a lunch of freshly grilled fish. Alternatively, visit a 'konoba' (tavern) in nearby bays like Rukavac.
As options on-site are limited, bringing your own food and drinks is the best option. Enjoy a picnic on the secluded beach.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy a bottle of Vugava (white) or Plavac Mali (red) wine directly from wineries or in the shops in the towns of Vis and Komiža.
Look for locally produced olive oil, known for its quality, in the island's towns. It makes for a great souvenir.
The beach itself is at its most quiet and peaceful before 10 AM, before the daily tour boats arrive.
Rent a small boat from Rukavac and explore the many smaller, unnamed coves around Stiniva for complete seclusion.
A nearby, more easily accessible pebble beach that features a quieter alternative if Stiniva gets too crowded.
Water temperature…
Stiniva is located on the southern coast of Vis island and is regarded as one of Europe's most spectacular bays. The highlight of this beach is its entrance: from the sea, the cove is only accessible through a narrow four-meter gap between massive limestone cliffs, which keeps larger boats out and preserves its pristine charm. Inside, the bay widens into a small, white pebble beach enclosed by almost vertical rock walls. The cove was likely formed by the collapse of a cave ceiling thousands of years ago. Due to its unique geomorphology, Stiniva has been a protected natural monument since 1967. Shade is only available in the afternoon when the high cliffs block the sun. A small, rustic beach bar has refreshments and simple local snacks to visitors. Reaching the beach is an adventure: you can either approach by boat from nearby Rukavac or take a steep, 20-minute hike down from the road above. Sturdy footwear is essential for the land path. The best time to visit is early morning to beat the crowds. Vis island can be reached by ferry from Split in about two hours.
