Promajna originated in the 17th century when fishermen from the highland village of Bast moved to the coast. The name is believed to derive from 'promol' (sunrise), highlighting the town's bright and sunny position under the Biokovo slopes. While it has evolved into a modern holiday village, it has successfully maintained its tranquil and family-oriented character. The main attraction is the dense pine forest that reaches the very edge of the pebble beach, providing natural shade during the hot summer months. The waters here are exceptionally shallow, making it a top choice for families with small children. A scenic seaside promenade connects Promajna with neighboring Baška Voda to the north and Makarska to the south, offering beautiful routes for walking and cycling. The blend of sea salt and pine aerosols in the air is traditionally considered beneficial for respiratory health.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
