💡 Tips
- Visit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds, especially in July and August.
- Wear water shoes. Zlatni Rat is a pebble beach, and the stones can be uncomfortable to walk on.
- Be aware of the currents at the tip of the beach; they can be strong. Don't swim out too far.
- The beach is reachable from the center of Bol by a 20-25 minute walk along a pine-shaded promenade. Alternatively, you can take a taxi boat from the harbour.
- The western part of the beach is often designated as a naturist (FKK) area. Pay attention to the signs.
🍽 Food
Look for a traditional konoba (tavern) in the hills above Bol to try lamb cooked under a 'peka' (a metal lid covered in embers).
Enjoy the catch of the day at one of the many restaurants along the harbour promenade in Bol.
Try a platter of local sheep or goat cheese, drizzled with the island's excellent olive oil.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy a small souvenir made from the island's famous white limestone in one of the gift shops in Bol. It was also used to build the White House in Washington, D.C.
Look for wines made from the Plavac Mali grape, a varietal native to Dalmatia. Buy it directly from a winery or a specialized shop.
Hike or drive to the highest point of the Adriatic islands for a sweeping view of Zlatni Rat and the surrounding islands. It's much quieter than the beach itself.
Take a walk to the peaceful Dominican Monastery at the eastern end of Bol. It has a lovely beach and a botanical garden.
The walk under the pine trees between the beach and the town is a peaceful escape from the direct sun and the crowds on the sand.
Water temperature…
Zlatni Rat extends over 500 meters perpendicularly into the Adriatic Sea, located west of the pleasant town of Bol on the southern side of Brač Island. The beach consists of fine, white pebbles and is famous for its unique natural phenomenon: the tip of the horn shifts east or west depending on wind direction and sea currents. The crystal-clear, turquoise water deepens quickly, making it a favorite spot for swimmers and snorkelers. The beach is fringed by a dense pine forest that provides cooling shade and hides the ruins of an ancient Roman 'villa rustica'. Due to the reliable winds in the Hvar Channel, Zlatni Rat has evolved into a world-class hub for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Along the promenade connecting Bol to the beach, numerous beach clubs and restaurants serve local specialties like the renowned Brač olive oil and island lamb. Visitors can best reach the beach by taxi boat from Bol harbor or via a scenic 20-minute walk along the coast. Brač Island is accessible by ferry from Split or Makarska and has its own small airport. The best time for sunbathers is from June to September, while May and October are first-rate for active tourists wishing to hike up to Vidova Gora, the highest peak of all Croatian islands, which looms directly above.
