Covering approximately 500 square kilometers in eastern Burundi, Ruvubu National Park is the country's largest protected area. The park gets its name from the Ruvubu River, which meanders through its core, creating a lush riverine ecosystem flanked by expansive savannah woodlands. This diverse habitat supports a wide array of wildlife, including buffalos, waterbucks, antelopes, and occasionally leopards and lions. It is also an important bird area, with over 400 species documented, making it a spectacular location for ornithologists. Ruvubu remains largely untouched and receives fewer visitors than other East African parks, offering a highly authentic wilderness experience. Game drives and guided walks are the primary ways to explore the terrain. The dry season from June to October is the most favorable time for wildlife spotting.
