Tavna Monastery
Tavna Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located near the city of Bijeljina in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although written records first appear in the early 16th century, popular tradition attributes its founding to the sons of the Serbian King Dragutin in the 14th century. The monastery church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and features a simple yet dignified architectural style. Throughout its history, the monastery has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, particularly during Ottoman rule and throughout both World Wars. It frequently served as a sanctuary for the local population and a center for education and spiritual resistance. The current complex is set within a peaceful hilly landscape and houses a valuable collection of ecclesiastical books and relics. Today, Tavna stands as a protected National Monument and a major destination for pilgrims, symbolizing the endurance of the Orthodox faith in the region.
