The Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska (MSURS) is the premier institution dedicated to modern and contemporary art in Banja Luka and the broader region. Housed in the beautifully restored, Austro-Hungarian railway station building constructed in 1891 in an elegant Neo-Renaissance style, the museum creates a captivating dialogue between historic architecture and innovative artworks. The institution was originally founded in 1971 as the 'Banja Luka Art Gallery', emerging as a profound gesture of global artistic solidarity; following the devastating 1969 earthquake, hundreds of artists from around the world donated their works to the ruined city. The collection has since grown to encompass over 1,600 pieces originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslavia, and the international art scene. The diverse exhibits feature paintings, sculptures, graphics, and cutting-edge multimedia installations from the late 20th and 21st centuries. The museum also serves as a bustling cultural hub, regularly hosting workshops, film screenings, and international collaborative projects.
