Kladanj is situated in northeastern Bosnia within the Drinjača river valley and is completely surrounded by dense, seemingly endless coniferous forests. The town is nationally famous for its exceptional healing water springs, first and foremost the so-called Men's Water (Muška voda), which has been attributed with powerful health-promoting and strengthening properties for centuries. Historically and currently, the economy of Kladanj relies heavily and almost exclusively on forestry and extensive wood processing, as the heavily forested environment provides an absolutely handy foundation for this industry. During the winter months, the region transforms into an attractive destination for local winter sports, particularly through the small yet excellent Karaula ski center. Architecturally, the town is home to well-preserved monuments from the Ottoman era, including the historic Kuršumlija Mosque, which reflects the deep cultural heritage of the region.
