Kakanj Industrial Hub (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Kakanj industrial hub is a historically grown heart of Bosnian heavy industry and energy generation that has woven itself deeply into the economic structure of Central Bosnia. The town of Kakanj owes its development primarily to the rich coal deposits, which have been industrially mined since the beginning of the 20th century. The local thermal power plant, which was commissioned in 1956, is one of the cornerstones of state electricity production with a capacity of 450 megawatts. Right next to energy generation, Kakanj has also established itself as a center of the building materials industry; the local cement factory, now owned by Heidelberg Materials, is one of the largest and most modern cement production facilities in the entire Balkan region. This combination of mining, energy, and cement production makes Kakanj one of the most economically important transport hubs along the Bosna River.
