Remouchamps Caves (Belgium)

Weather…

The Remouchamps Caves in the province of Liège are among the most extraordinary subterranean cave systems in the world and have been open to tourism since 1912. The cave system was carved over countless millennia by the Rubicon River into the massive limestone bedrock of the Ardennes. What truly sets Remouchamps apart from other caves is the sheer size of its underground river, which is widely recognized as the longest navigable subterranean waterway in the world. A visit to Remouchamps is typically split into two parts: First, visitors explore a route extending over a kilometer on foot, passing through enormous chambers, such as the impressive 'Cathedral' that stands over 40 meters high, decorated with fascinating stalactites, stalagmites, and delicate curtains of flowstone. The absolute highlight of the tour, however, is the return journey. Visitors board flat-bottomed boats and glide smoothly for 600 meters along the crystal-clear Rubicon through narrow rock galleries back out into the daylight.
