Bilzen is a pleasant and historically significant small city in the Flemish province of Limburg. The undisputed highlight of the region is the Grand Commandery of Alden Biesen, a massive, moated castle complex dating back to the 16th century. This former main residence of the Teutonic Order in the Bailywick of Biesen is today one of the largest cultural and conference centers of the Flemish government and captivates with its beautiful English and French gardens. In addition to this architectural jewel, Bilzen features an appealing historic center around the market square, which is dominated by the imposing neo-Gothic town hall and St. Maurice's Church.
