💡 Tips
- Choose the cable car to the citadel if you want to avoid a strenuous climb; the 400+ steps are very steep.
- Park for free at the train station parking lot and walk across the bridge into the city center.
- The colorful saxophone sculptures on the bridge offer the best photo opportunities early in the morning in soft light.
- A boat trip on the Meuse is the best way to admire the dramatic cliffs and the citadel from below.

An extremely hard honey biscuit; break off pieces and suck on them, don't bite directly!
A savory cheese tart made with local cheese, served hot in the city's traditional brasseries.
The famous abbey beer whose story began here; best enjoyed on tap in a riverside cafe.

Dinant is undoubtedly one of the most photogenic and pretty cities in Belgium, located in the province of Namur in the Wallonia region. The city squeezes spectacularly between the steep limestone cliffs and the banks of the Meuse river. Towering high above the city is the highly visible Citadel of Dinant, which can be reached either via 408 steps carved into the rock or comfortably by cable car; it features a sweeping view over the river valley. At the foot of the rock, the striking onion dome of the Gothic Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame impresses onlookers. Dinant is world-famous as the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. In his honor, the cityscape is decorated with colorful saxophone sculptures, and the house where he was born is now a small museum. Culinarily, the city is known for the "Couque de Dinant," an extremely hard biscuit baked from flour and honey, often shaped as a work of art.
