Condroz Plateau (Belgium)

Weather…

The Condroz Plateau is a prominent geographical region in Wallonia, extending south of the Sambre and Meuse valleys. Its landscape is defined by a distinct ridge-and-valley structure, consisting of parallel limestone crests and intervening depressions formed from shale. This geological peculiarity, originating from intense folding during the Paleozoic era, gives the region its characteristic undulating form. Elevations range from 200 to 350 meters, providing sweeping views over fertile agricultural land that is highly suitable for growing grain and sugar beet. The town of Ciney is widely regarded as the unofficial capital of this farming-oriented zone. Historically, the Condroz was the theater for numerous border conflicts, a legacy still evident today in the many old castles and fortified farmhouses dotting the countryside.
