Shchuchyn, a city in the Grodno Region of northwestern Belarus, has a history dating back to its first mention in 1436. For centuries, the town was closely associated with the Scipio del Campo noble family, who in the 19th century commissioned a grand neoclassical palace modeled after the Petit Trianon in Versailles. The urban landscape is further defined by significant religious structures, including the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Theresa, built in 1826, and the Orthodox Church of Saint Michael. During the 20th century, Shchuchyn gained strategic importance as the site of a major Soviet airbase, which significantly influenced the local infrastructure and demographics until its closure in the 1990s. Today, the city functions as an administrative and industrial hub, with a focus on preserving its architectural heritage and repurposing former military zones. Its economy is primarily driven by food processing and manufacturing, serving as an important center for the surrounding agricultural district.
