Kolozha Church (St. Boris and Gleb) (Belarus)

Weather…

The Kolozha Church, formally known as the Church of Saints Boris and Gleb, is an extraordinary architectural jewel in the city of Grodno and one of the oldest surviving sanctuaries in Belarus. Constructed around 1180, the church is a rare and highly significant example of ancient Russian architecture from the pre-Mongol invasion era. Its most fascinating feature is the unique exterior design: the walls are intricately adorned with polished colored stones and majolica (ceramic) tiles arranged in the shape of crosses. In 1853, a massive landslide caused a substantial portion of the southern and western walls to collapse into the Neman River, which were later replaced with a distinct wooden structure. Today, the church remains an active spiritual center and is a prominent candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage list.
