The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hlybokaye is one of the most prominent monuments of Vilnian Baroque architecture in Belarus. Originally built between 1639 and 1654 as a Carmelite monastery church, it was founded by Joseph Korsak. The architecture is striking for its monumental western facade, featuring two tall towers and rich sculptural ornamentation. Following the Polish uprising of 1831, the monastery was closed, and in 1875, the building was converted into an Orthodox cathedral. Particularly noteworthy is the extensive system of crypts beneath the structure, which originally served as a burial site for the monks and the founding family. During World War II, the building remained largely unscathed, allowing for the preservation of original interior elements. The cathedral continues to dominate the skyline of Hlybokaye and is regarded as a symbol of the region's complex religious history. Its grand dimensions and artistic quality make it site for those interested in the architecture of the Vitebsk region.
