The historical Grodno Zoo is an institution with deep roots, founded in 1927 on the initiative of the botanist and biologist Jan Kochanowski. As the first zoological garden on the territory of present-day Belarus, it holds a special nostalgic and educational charm. Despite its inner-city location in the historic city of Grodno, it is home to more than 3,000 individual animals representing over 300 species. Following comprehensive renovations in the 2000s, the zoo today features species-appropriate enclosures ranging from graceful Siberian tigers to heavyweight hippos and exotic reptiles. The zoo is deeply integrated into the region's educational system and continuously runs programs raising awareness for nature conservation and the local Belarusian fauna.

Getting there
Centrally located in Grodno, the zoo is easily reachable by public transport or on foot from the historic downtown area. Its proximity to the main railway station makes it an extremely convenient destination for both locals and tourists.

The zoo is generally open year-round, but spring and summer are the best times when animals are most active and outdoor enclosures are lush. Winter visits offer a quieter experience, though exotic species are moved into heated indoor pavilions.
