The Gedabek gold mine has a long industrial history dating back to the 19th century, when the Siemens company developed significant copper and precious metal deposits here. After a lengthy hiatus, modern mining was revitalized in 2009 by the Azerbaijan International Mining Company (AIMC). Located in the Lesser Caucasus mountains, the mine is now one of the country's primary sources of gold, silver, and copper. Extraction is carried out through both open-pit and underground methods, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as heap leaching for gold recovery. Since the resumption of production, the mine has yielded tons of gold, contributing substantially to Azerbaijan's foreign exchange reserves. The project is a major employer in the Gədəbəy region and stimulates local infrastructure development. Beyond its economic significance, the site is historically notable as Siemens once established some of the region's first railways and telegraph lines here.
