Sant Joan de Caselles (Andorra)

Weather…

The Church of Sant Joan de Caselles is a quintessential example of Andorran Romanesque architecture. Located just outside the town of Canillo, this 11th-12th century church is distinguished by its tall, multi-story Lombard-style bell tower. The building features a rectangular nave and a semi-circular apse. Inside, it preserves a magnificent 16th-century altarpiece depicting scenes from the life of Saint John the Evangelist, considered one of the finest in the Pyrenees. It also contains remnants of 12th-century Romanesque frescoes, including a stucco Majesty of Christ surrounded by apostles. The church's simple yet elegant design and its remarkable state of preservation make it a key monument for understanding the artistic and religious heritage of medieval Andorra.
