Bordes d'Envalira is a high-altitude settlement situated at approximately 1960 meters, strategically located along the CG-2 main road between Soldeu and the Envalira Tunnel. The hamlet derives its name from the traditional 'bordes' or haylofts that were historically used for mountain farming. Today, the settlement has evolved into a key base for winter sports, providing direct access to the Grandvalira ski slopes. The architecture features a blend of modernized traditional stone buildings and new apartment complexes that adhere to alpine design principles. Nearby is the Envalira Pass, the highest paved road pass in the Pyrenees. Bordes d'Envalira remains popular in summer, serving as a starting point for hiking trails leading to the Pessons glacial cirque and other high-mountain destinations. Due to its extreme elevation, the settlement is often snow-covered well into late spring. The history of the site is closely linked to transit traffic between Andorra and France, historically serving as an essential rest stop for travelers crossing the range.
