Sant Serni de Canillo
The Church of Sant Serni de Canillo is an outstanding example of the transition of Andorran sacred architecture from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. The current structure was built in the 17th and 18th centuries over the foundations of an older Romanesque church, parts of whose exterior walls are still visible. Most notable is the massive bell tower, which is among the most imposing in the country and dominates the Canillo skyline. Inside, the church impresses with a magnificent 17th-century Baroque main altarpiece dedicated to Saint Sernin. The interior is further enriched by several side altars and intricate wood carvings. The church serves as the religious and cultural heart of the parish, hosting key local festivities. Its hillside location also gives broad views over the Canillo valley.
