Estany de Juclà is the largest lake in the Principality of Andorra, located in the glacial Incles Valley within the parish of Canillo. Situated at an altitude of 2,295 meters above sea level, the lake covers a surface area of approximately 21.3 hectares. It is part of a striking high-mountain environment characterized by granite formations and alpine meadows. Getting there
The journey typically begins at the designated upper end of the Incles Valley road. A well-constructed mountain trail subsequently zigzags steadily up the valley wall to the large lake.
Best season
Hiking is generally best from July through September to ensure the high-altitude trails are fully accessible. Snow can stubbornly persist on the surrounding upper peaks well into summer.
Terrain & paths
The route features a continuous, moderately strenuous ascent with a mix of dirt paths, stone steps, and rocky sections. The final approach involves navigating some impressive rock formations.
What to bring
Reliable hiking boots with robust, grippy soles are necessary for the uneven rocky terrain. Weather-resistant clothing, sufficient hydration, and perhaps trekking poles are recommended.
