Estany de les Abelletes is an easy on the eye high-mountain lake situated at an altitude of 2,258 meters near Pas de la Casa, Andorra. This lake is unique as it lies directly on the international border between Andorra and France, with sovereignty shared between the two nations. It is hydrographically significant as the primary source of the Ariège river, which flows northward into French territory. The lake covers a surface area of approximately 2 hectares and is set within a glacial cirque characterized by granite debris. During the summer months, the area is a popular destination for recreational fishing, particularly for trout. The surrounding terrain is covered with alpine vegetation, including rhododendrons and high-altitude grasses. Accessibility is relatively easy from the nearby ski resort, making it one of the most visited natural sites in the Encamp parish. The serene environment gives a stark contrast to the bustling commercial activity of Pas de la Casa, providing a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
