Pic de les Pedrusques (Andorra)

Weather…

The Pic de les Pedrusques is a distinctive mountain in the eastern Pyrenees of Andorra, reaching an elevation of 2,834 meters. It is situated in the parish of Encamp, close to the French border. Its name is derived from the extensive scree fields (pedrusques) that cover its steep flanks and define its landscape. Geologically, the mountain is composed of granite and gneiss, dating back to the Variscan orogeny. Alpine vegetation is sparse, consisting mainly of specialized plants like alpine chives and various cushion plants. The summit gives an extensive view of the neighboring Cirque dels Pessons, one of the largest glacial cirques in Andorra. Historically, the region was an important crossing point for refugees during various wars in the 20th century.

📅
Best season
The best time to experience this mountain is usually during the warmer months of summer and early autumn. The rocky surface can be treacherous when covered by snow and ice in winter.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
As the name suggests, the mountain's surface is famously rocky and rugged. The demanding terrain demands excellent balance and stamina as hikers negotiate large boulders and loose stones.
🎒
What to bring
Heavy-duty hiking boots with deep treads are an absolute must for this rugged ground. Additionally, packing trekking poles, ample hydration, and wind-resistant clothing is highly advised.
