The Lusaka Zoo & Educational Center, widely known as part of the Munda Wanga Environmental Park, is Zambia’s premier facility for environmental education and wildlife rehabilitation. Geographically situated in Chilanga, south of Lusaka's city center, the park encompasses beautiful botanical gardens and a specialized wildlife sanctuary. The zoo houses a diverse range of indigenous species, such as cheetahs, orphaned elephants, crocodiles, and various primates, many of which have been rescued from illegal trade or human-wildlife conflict. Historically, the park was established in the 1950s as a private garden before being transformed into a national resource for conservation education. Best season
The zoo is open year-round, but the best visiting times are early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active. The cooler months from May to August are especially pleasant for a visit.

Early morning provides the chance to watch animals being fed and to avoid crowds. Late afternoon is also quiet and well-suited for close-up shots.
Etiquette
Please do not feed the animals as it can harm their health. Keep a proper distance from the enclosures and do not climb over the barriers.
What to bring
A camera with a zoom lens is good for animal portraits. Comfortable shoes are recommended as you will spend some time on the pathways.

Lusaka Zoo is located in central Lusaka, near the Parliament building. It is easily reachable by taxi or private vehicle and has ample parking.

As it is a zoo, animals are well visible but may retreat. Take time for each enclosure and quietly observe the animals' behaviour.
