Ngonye Falls (Zambia)

Weather…

Ngonye Falls, also known as Sioma Falls, is located in western Zambia and forms an impressive horseshoe on the upper reaches of the Zambezi River. Although not as high as Victoria Falls, it impresses with its enormous width and the rugged landscape of volcanic basalt. The water carves its way through numerous channels, forming a labyrinth of cascades that reveals fascinating rock formations, especially during the dry season. The region is home to the Lozi people and plays an important role in their traditions. Unlike the tourist-heavy Victoria Falls, Ngonye Falls has a peaceful and almost untouched atmosphere. Visitors can bathe in natural pools or explore the area on hikes. The nearby Sioma-Ngwezi National Park also provides the opportunity to observe elephants and other wildlife in a remote setting. Access is via the town of Sioma. A modern bridge across the Zambezi has significantly improved accessibility in recent years. In the surrounding area, there are several lodges and campsites directly on the riverbank, specializing in fishing and nature lovers. The best time to travel is from June to August, when the water level drops and the horseshoe structure of the falls is best visible.
