Kakhovka is a city with a rich history in the Kherson Oblast of southern Ukraine. It is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, at the site of the former Kakhovka Reservoir, which was drained following the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in 2023. The city was founded in the late 18th century and quickly developed into an important river port and commercial center. One of the city's most famous landmarks is the 'Legendary Tachanka' monument, which commemorates the fighting during the Russian Civil War. Kakhovka has been the scene of important historical events that have shaped the region. The city was also known for the Tavria Games, a major annual music festival that attracted thousands of visitors. The surrounding region is famous for its agriculture, particularly for growing watermelons. Due to the ongoing conflict, the tourist infrastructure is severely affected, and travel to the region is not currently recommended. However, the city remains an important symbol of the resilience and complex history of southern Ukraine.
