Jinja Industrial Area (Uganda)

Weather…

The Jinja Industrial Area is the historical heart of Ugandan industry, located at the source of the Nile on the shores of Lake Victoria. Its development began in the 1950s following the completion of the Owen Falls Dam, which provided the necessary hydroelectric power for large-scale factories. For a long time, Jinja was regarded as the 'industrial capital' of East Africa, famous for its textile mills, steel works, and grain processing plants. After a period of decline in the 1970s and 80s, the area is currently undergoing a renaissance driven by new investments in heavy industry and agro-processing. Its strategic location along the railway to Mombasa and proximity to Nile power stations continue to make it an attractive site for energy-intensive production. Today, the area hosts modern plants manufacturing cooking oil, soap, steel, and motor vehicles.
