Uganda National Mosque (Uganda)

Weather…

The Uganda National Mosque, majestically perched atop Kampala Hill, is the largest Islamic house of worship in Uganda and a prominent architectural landmark in the capital city. Originally commissioned by President Idi Amin in 1972, the construction remained incomplete for decades until it was funded by a generous donation from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and completed in 2007. Until 2013, it was named the Gaddafi National Mosque. The impressive structure can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers inside, with space for an additional 20,000 on the terraces and in the courtyard. The mosque serves as the headquarters of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and is a symbol for the nation's Islamic community. Its 50-meter-high minaret is open to the public and, after a climb of over 300 steps, gives a panoramic 360-degree panoramic view of Kampala's seven hills.
