Bulange Mengo (Uganda)

Weather…

Bulange Mengo, located on Mengo Hill in Kampala, is the ceremonial parliament and administrative headquarters of the Buganda Kingdom. It is a hugely important cultural and political landmark for the Baganda people. The current building was constructed between 1953 and 1958 under Kabaka Mutesa II, with funds raised by the Baganda people themselves, demonstrating their unity and commitment to their kingdom. The building is notable for its unique blend of British colonial and traditional Ganda architecture. It houses the Lukiiko (parliament), where representatives from the 52 clans of Buganda convene. A notable tradition holds that the Kabaka (King) only enters Bulange through a special, central gate called the 'Wankaki', and he does so only once a year to open the Lukiiko session. The building stands directly opposite the Kabaka's Palace, connected by a ceremonial road called 'Kabaka Anjagala Road', which is exactly one mile long.
