Water temperature…
Boldumsaz is a farming town in the north of Daşoguz Region with around 15,000 inhabitants, lying about 35 kilometres north of the regional capital and close to the Uzbek border. Until 1992 it was called Kalinin in honour of the Soviet politician Mikhail Kalinin, after which it reclaimed its historic Turkmen name. Boldumsaz sits in the heart of the Khorezm irrigation system and has long been a centre for cotton, rice, alfalfa and melon farming. Local farmers depend on a dense canal network fed by the lower Amu Darya, although the system increasingly suffers from soil salinisation and water shortages tied to the shrinking Aral Sea. The town hosts a cotton ginning plant, a rice mill, a busy weekly bazaar and a station on the Türkmenabat-Daşoguz railway.
