Dashtijum Nature Reserve (Tajikistan)

Weather…

The Dashtijum Nature Reserve is located in southern Tajikistan within the Khatlon region and was established in 1983 to protect the unique ecosystems of the Hazratishoh mountains. It covers an area of approximately 19,700 hectares and is characterized by steep rocky slopes, deep gorges, and dense pistachio forests. The reserve is internationally renowned for the protection of the Markhor (screw-horned goat), a rare wild goat species for which this area provides one of the world's most vital sanctuaries. In addition to the Markhor, the region is home to brown bears, golden eagles, and various reptile species adapted to the arid climate. Elevations within the reserve range from 600 to over 3,000 meters, creating a wide variety of micro-habitats. The preservation of this area is of crucial importance for maintaining biodiversity in Central Asia and serves as a model for sustainable nature conservation in mountainous regions.
