Soglio (Switzerland)

Weather…

Soglio is perched on a sunny terrace at 1,090 m above sea level in Val Bregaglia. The painter Giovanni Segantini famously called it the 'gateway to paradise.' The village character is defined by narrow alleys, historic granite houses, and the imposing palazzi of the von Salis family. The most significant is Palazzo Salis, now a hotel, featuring a Baroque garden and grand halls. The architecture reflects the wealth accumulated from the valley's historic transit trade. Soglio is renowned for its extensive sweet chestnut forests, among the largest in Europe. In October, the Chestnut Festival celebrates the local harvest. For hikers, Soglio is a gateway to the 'Sentiero Panoramico' trail, offering spectacular views of the rugged granite peaks of the Sciora group on the opposite side of the valley. Local culinary specialties made from chestnut flour are a must-try. The village is accessible by PostBus from St. Moritz or from Italy. The well-suited time to visit is October during the chestnut season or early summer for hiking.
